Hey guys!

Hope you enjoyed the foundation and concealer tutorial that I posted a while back. So, recently, I happened to pass by the Forest Essentials section in Sephora ( the one in Select City Walk, Saket, Delhi) and I was kind of taken in by the really pretty bottles and the nice set up that Forest Essentials had at the store. Since I am always on the lookout for new products to try, I thought of picking up a new face wash.

One thing you should know is that it is really not ‘proper’ to classify your skin under a category, say ‘combination skin’ or ‘dry skin’ permanently. With the changes in the season, our skin tends to behave differently. For example, I usually have extremely dry skin in the winter. I mean, ‘I could coat my face with oil and it would disappear in a few short seconds’ kind of dry. However, my skin shows traits of combination skin during the monsoon and autumn season. Also, our skin tends to change with age as well. It tends to get drier as we age since it looses a lot of water and oil content thus impacting it’s own elasticity.

What is combination skin though?

There are several general categories to classify skin type. It may be oily, normal, dry, combination or even sensitive. As the name suggests, combination skin can be oily in places and normal or dry in the others. For example, for a person with combination skin, the T-zone (the nose, the forehead and the chin – T shape, hence the name) tends to be oily as compared with the rest of the face. In such a case, you will experience a shiny and greasy nose, forehead and chin area while the rest of your face might even feel dry!

Coming back to Forest Essentials, after looking through a variety of all of their beautiful and completely natural products, I was advised to purchase a pack of Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth) and a bottle of Aloe Vera Juice for my currently ‘combination’ skin by the very helpful person at the counter.

The packaging is absolutely lust worthy! Being an all natural brand, they have these really nice light brown – beige paper bags with their logo on them. Plus all the products are wrapped in a translucent paper giving them a very elite and delicate look.

Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth)

Multani Mitti or Fuller’s Earth is widely used in the cosmetic industry for its many benefits for the hair, skin and general health. In fact, I’m sure that we have all heard about this fascinating product from our grannies! It’s a natural source of Magnesium Chlorine and helps reducing the appearance of acne. It acts as a great scrubber and cleanser for the skin as it removes all of the dead skin. It’s amazing for getting rid of a tan, pigmentation, blackheads, white heads, you name it!

Once I learnt about all of these properties, I decided to get my hands on this product. The best part about it is that you can use it as a face wash or even as a mask (though just once or twice a week).

P.S. – this product also contains a bit of neem, turmeric and fenugreek that work in combination as a really good cleanser.

 Aloe Vera Juice

I’m sure you know that Aloe Vera is a very powerful herb and it is rich in medicinal properties. It is loaded with healing powers and it is an excellent source of moisture for your skin. It really helps to calm down irritated skin and helps in its regeneration. Additionally, it has some anti -fungal and anti – bacterial properties as well. So all in all, this product is your go to for any skin related issues.

Now, how do I use them?

A combination of Multani Mitti and Aloe Vera Juice works as an extremely good face wash!

I usually take about half a teaspoon of Multani Mitti and mix it with a few drops of Aloe Vera Juice to develop a thick paste. Then I add a few drops of rose water (Dabur Rose Water available at any pharmacy or cosmetic store) to make the paste thinner. Rose water is an excellent toner for the skin and leaves my skin feeling extremely refreshed. The cleansing properties of the Multani Mitti work great in combination with the moisturising and purifying properties of the Aloe Vera Juice and leave my skin feeling neither too dry and nor too greasy. My T-zone has started to feel less oily since I have been using these products.

You can also use this mixture as a face mask once or twice a week. The mask dries within a few minutes of application so do not leave it on for too long as it may dry your skin quite a bit. I usually leave it on for about 5 minutes before washing it off.

Please note that if you have extremely dry skin, do not use Multani Mitti as it has a tendency to soak up excess oil from your skin and may leave your face with dry patches.

However, if despite a nice and greasy T-zone, the rest of your face tends to remain on the drier side, I would recommend that you mix the Multani Mitti and the Aloe Vera Juice with a little bit of Lacto Calamine lotion instead of the rose water to ensure that your skin does not dry out too much.
